Maersk Oil Trading becomes licensed supplier in Singapore

Singapore business was issued a bunker supplier licence in July.

Maersk Oil Trading Singapore Pte Ltd is officially a licensed supplier at the port of Singapore; it was granted a bunker supplier licence by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) in July.

As a result, the company is now permitted to carry out deliveries of marine diesel oil (MDO), marine gas oil (MGO) and marine fuel oil (MFO) in Singapore.

Founded in 2012, the Singapore-based firm forms part of Maersk Oil Trading, which also has offices in Copenhagen, Rotterdam and New York.

Maersk Oil Trading is responsible for sourcing over 10 million tonnes of marine fuel per annum for the entire fleet of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. The company also carries out derivatives trading and hedges price risk for the group's oil activities.

Searights Maritime Services

In addition to today's announcement of the cancellation of AC Oil Pte Ltd's bunker licences, another Singapore-based bunker supplier, Searights Maritime Services Pte. Ltd., no longer appears on the MPA's list of accredited suppliers.

The news comes less than a year after the death of its CEO, Cecil Cheong, who passed away last November. Since then, the company is reported to have fallen behind with payments and earlier this year was dismissing rumours that it had filed for bankruptcy.

Then, in July, a bunker tanker operated by the company, Giselle, was arrested over a legal claim related to non-payment, according to court documents filed by the legal representatives of Moby Dick Supplies Pte Ltd.

The latest development represents a remarkable change in fortune for a company that was last year ranked 12th in the MPA's list of suppliers by volume, having been 14th, 16th, 15th, 11th and 10th in 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010 respectively.
