OW Bunker to strengthen West Africa operation

Bunker supplier to increase its presence in West Africa with two newbuild vessels.

OW Bunker, one of the world’s leading suppliers and traders of marine fuel, has today announced that it plans to bring two newbuild vessels on line to further strengthen its operations in West Africa.

Both vessels will have mass flow meters installed, which will enable the quick and accurate method of measuring the amount of fuel oil that is transferred during the bunkering process.

OW Bunker said it is looking to consolidate its position in the region. Current supplies in the West Africa will be supported by OW Bunker’s global network with limited availability until the new build vessels are brought into service.

Commenting on the development, Jane Dahl Christensen, Executive Vice President, OW Bunker, said: “As competition increases within the region, it is vital that we continue to differentiate ourselves with a first rate, efficient service for customers, as well as the delivery of quality products and a real in-depth knowledge of the market. Bringing two new build vessels on line will ensure that we can continue this and further strengthen our presence in what we believe is a growing market.”

OW Bunker said it has seen a significant increase in volumes in the region following the escalation of piracy incidents in the Gulf of Aden and off the Horn of Africa, with many ship operators taking the decision to re-route vessels secure reliable and safe bunkering alternatives.
