Chemoil JV commences bunkering operations

Indian joint venture firm starts supplying marine fuel at Mundra.

Leading bunker supplier Chemoil Energy has announced that the joint venture company it established with Adani Group last year has begun supplying marine fuel at Mundra in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

Chemoil-Adani Private Limited is now able to offer 380-centistoke (cst), 180-cst and marine gasoil (MGO) to customers calling at Mundra, the largest private port in India.

Commenting on the news, Chemoil said in a statement “The commencement of operations marks Chemoil as the first international bunker supplier to have officially entered the Indian market, and strengthens Chemoil’s position to expand presence throughout the Indian fuel oil and petroleum products market.”

Besides Mundra, Chemoil said deliveries will also be carried out at the ports of Kandla, Sikka, Jamnagar and Bedi, all of them located within the state of Gujarat.

Adani Group owns and operates the supply infrastructure at Mundra Port, whilst the storage terminal facilities are leased from the Mundra Port Special Economic Zone. The total capacity for fuel products storage is 90,000 cubic metres, which can be increased to 120,000 cubic metres to meet market demand.

Bunker deliveries at Mundra will be made via pipeline to all 12 berths, whilst for other ports in Gujarat a combination of Adani-owned and chartered barges will be used - AEL 1, Hope Island 1, Hope Island II and Kamal XXI.

Adrian Tolson, Chemoil Vice President, Sales & Marketing said: “We are excited to commence our joint supply operations with the Adani Group in India. Mundra is ideally located near the main shipping routes of Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa; our presence there will strengthen supply services to our global customer base and also begin to provide a reinforced bunker service to operators throughout India.

"Shipping companies will be able to realize operational efficiencies from the advantage of both the strategic location and reliable service provided by the combined capabilities of Chemoil-Adani."
