Cepsa performs biggest bunker delivery in its history

Spanish firm supplied 7,300 tonnes to the Mary Maersk in December.

Spanish bunker supplier Cepsa carried out the biggest delivery of marine fuel in its history last month, supplying 7,300 metric tonnes to a vessel operated by Maersk.

The bunkering operation took place on 11th December, with Cepsa supplying the Triple-E container ship Mary Maersk via the use of mass flow meter (MFM) technology.

As reported by Bunker Index in October, Cepsa recently became the first supplier in the Strait of Gibraltar to use MFMs on its barges. The company installed Promass flow meters developed by the Swiss manufacturer Endress+Hauser AG.

Cepsa uses the Spain-flagged oil products tanker Monte Anaga to perform deliveries in Algeciras. Built in 2010, the vessel has a gross tonnage (grt) of 2,651 tons and a deadweight tonnage (dwt) of 4,335 tons. In addition to being fitted with MFM technology, the Monte Anaga also forms part of the European Maritime Safety Agency's (EMSA) fleet of standby oil spill response vessels.

In 2016, Cepsa is estimated to have carried out more than 2,000 bunker deliveries in Algeciras and almost 5,000 in the whole of Spain. During the first 11 months of last year, the Spanish firm supplied 4.25 million tonnes of marine fuel in Spain, with 1.575 million tonnes being delivered in Algeciras, according to Spanish news agency EFE.
