Flemming Ipsen joins Monjasa's board of directors

Former Torm chairman joins board; Jens Mathiasen resigns - to continue working as lawyer and legal consultant.

Monjasa Holding A/S has announced the addition of Flemming Ipsen to its board of directors.

Ipsen, who has a Master of Laws (L.L.M.) degree, began working as a corporate lawyer for A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S back in 1977 before going on to serve in a number of roles within the group up until 2011. He was chairman of A.P. Moller Singapore between 1998 and 2001, CEO and president of Maersk Air A/S between 2001 and 2004, and Executive Vice President of A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S between 2004 and 2011. Most recently, he served as chairman of the board at Rederiet Torm A/S between 2013 and 2015.

Commenting on the news, Monjasa's Christian Merrild, said: "As chairman of the board, I'm pleased to welcome Flemming Ipsen as a new capacity in the board room. With his profound knowledge of international shipping and strategic leadership abilities, Flemming has proved himself an energetic and accomplished leader in the Danish business community.

"Everyone involved in the global shipping industry experiences the current difficult market conditions and Flemming is used to roll[ing] up his sleeves and is motivated by challenging tasks. Monjasa has established a robust business foundation and is now looking to consolidate its market position. I'm confident that Flemming is the right man to take part in this work and will prove a true gain for Monjasa."

Concurrently, Monjasa has announced that Jens Mathiasen has resigned from the board; however, he is due to continue working as a lawyer and legal consultant for the group.

Monjasa said the resignation "reflects the guidelines of good corporate governance", with a clear separation between legal services and board duties.

The board of directors for Monjasa Holding A/S now consists of: Christian Merrild (chair), Tage Bundgaard, Anders Ostergaard and Flemming Ipsen.
