Baleària Canarias says the first truck-to-ship LNG bunkering operation for its fast ferry Mercedes Pinto has been carried out at Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The vessel received approximately 600 MWh of LNG at a flow rate of 700 litres per minute, delivered through two tanker trucks connected simultaneously, the company explained in a LinkedIn post.
The operation was carried out in coordination with the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and gas logistics firm ESK Gas Logistics, along with other bodies.
"This alternative expands the supply options available to our eco-efficient fleet in the Canary Islands and improves operational efficiency," Baleària Canarias stated.
Christened in June, Mercedes Pinto — named in tribute to the 20th-century writer and poet from Tenerife — is Baleària's 12th vessel equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of running on LNG and biogas. As previously reported, it was also the first vessel to receive LNG at the Port Las Palmas, on 8 June, via a simultaneous multi-truck-to-ship delivery.
