Asian shipowner announces new BAFs


Transportation and logistics firm applies new BAF rates in response to rising bunker costs.



Shipping and logistics company Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has announced that it has completed a regular review of its bunker costs and will be applying the following Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) on shipments between Australia and China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan:

China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea Northbound - Effective 18th July 2008
$575/20' and $1150/40'

Taiwan Northbound - Effective 2nd August 2008
$575/20' and $1150/40'

China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea Southbound - Effective 18th July 2008
$575/20' and $1150/40'

Taiwan Southbound - Effective 2nd August 2008
$575/20' and $1150/40'

From July 15th 2008, the Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) for all dry and reefer shipments from Haifa and Ashdod, Israel to Hong Kong, Macau and South China will be applied as follows:

USD 271 per 20'
USD 542 per 40'
USD 542 per 40'HQ

The BAF for routes from China to Europe and the Mediterranean will rise to USD675/TEU from August 1st 2008.

The China to Europe low sulphur fuel surcharge (MAR) will be adjusted from the start of next month to USD12/TEU.
