Bunker tanker approved for Coveñas deliveries

Bunkers International vessel is now fully authorized to supply at the Colombian port of Coveñas.

Bunkers International Corporation, along with its joint venture partner C.I. Vanoil, has announced that the BT Cartagena Sun [pictured] is now fully authorized by the Maritime Transport Agency of Colombia to deliver at the port of Coveñas, in addition to Offshore Cartagena, and Cartagena Inner Anchorage.

Commenting on the news, John Canal, President of Bunkers International, said: "We are very excited that the BT Cartagena Sun can now operate in Coveñas, which is Colombia’s main crude oil port. This vessel will enable our customers to obtain all the products they require at the locations they desire. We now have the ability to service the large crude oil tankers that transit Coveñas and the addition of offshore Cartagena gives our customers even more fuelling alternatives.”

The BT Cartagena Sun is a Colombian-flagged, double-hulled, 6000-tonne bunker tanker rebuilt in 2012, which provides high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO), low sulphur fuel oil (LSFO), and marine gas oil (MGO) products that are said to comply with ISO 2005 and 2010 standards. The vessel is fully operational and has been making deliveries regionally from its home base in Cartagena.

The BT Cartagena Sun is a purpose-built bunker tanker equipped with a variable pitch propeller, bow thrusters, Yokohama fenders and pumping rates of up to 500 metric tonnes per hour. The vessel offers three segregations: LSFO, HSFO, and MGO.

Bunkers International is supplying LSFO with a maximum of 1.00% sulphur, viscosity of 250-300 centistoke (cst), less than 200ppm of Vanadium and a CCAI of typically 820-830ppm. HSFO with a maximum of 1.5% sulphur and low metals will also be offered along with MGO.
