Singapore: Another month, another record

New record for Singapore as sales volumes exceed 3.5 million tonnes for the second consecutive month.

Bunker sales in Singapore reached a new record during the month of July, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,563,800 tonnes in July, surpassing the previous record of 3,543,800 tonnes set the previous month.

Sales volumes in July exceeded 3.5 million tonnes for the second month in succession. It is also the first time that sales have surpassed 3.4 million tonnes in four consecutive months, between April and July.

The port's sales record has now been broken in five consecutive months between March and July and the accumulated figure for the year up until the end of July 2010 is 23,584,600 tonnes - 2,629,700 tonnes higher than in July 2009.

It means that Singapore still looks on course to record annual sales of more than 40 million tonnes, needing an average of 3,283,080 tonnes per month for the remaining five months of the year in order to achieve the landmark sales figure.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - reached a new all-time record of 2,735,600 tonnes, beating the previous record of 2,694,500 tonnes, set in June 2010.

The figure was also 491,200 tonnes, or 16 percent, higher than the 3,072,600-tonne sales figure achieved in July 2009.

Meanwhile, sales of the other main grades of fuel declined in July compared to the previous month. Volumes of 500-cst fell by 2,800 tonnes to 474,800 tonnes, but the result was still a significant 184,300 tonnes, or 63 percent, up on the corresponding month in 2009.

Similarly, sales of 180-cst decreased by 4,400 tonnes to 201,900 tonnes in a comparison with June 2010, but were 10,700 tonnes higher than the previous year.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2010, 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
