Singapore on course to sell 40 million tonnes

New monthly record for Singapore as sales volumes exceed 20 million tonnes during the first six months.

Bunker sales in Singapore reached a new record during the month of June, according to preliminary estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,543,800 tonnes in June, surpassing the previous record of 3,470,400 tonnes set in May 2010.

Sales volumes in June exceeded 3.5 million tonnes for the first time and it is also the first time that sales have surpassed 3.4 million tonnes in three consecutive months with accumulated second quarter volumes of 10,456,800 tonnes.

The port's sales record has now been broken in four consecutive months between March and June and the accumulated figure for the first six months of the year has surpassed 20 million tonnes for the first time at 20,020,800 tonnes - 2,128,700 tonnes higher than in June 2009.

It means that Singapore is now on course to record annual sales of more than 40 million tonnes with sales volumes between July and December expected to exceed those achieved during the first half of 2010, based on the results of previous years.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - reached a new all-time record of 2,694,500 tonnes, beating the previous record of 2,634,000 tonnes, set in May 2010.

Meanwhile, sales of 500-cst increased by 3,000 tonnes to 477,600 tonnes. The figure is the second-highest ever recorded and 156,900 tonnes, or 49 percent, higher than the 302,700 tonnes achieved in June 2009.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2010, 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
