Norwegian Energy Trading has renewed its International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) for biofuel trading for another year, the bunker firm announced on 11 June.
The renewal covers certified mass balance, full chain of custody and verifiable greenhouse gas (GHG) savings — elements the company says are the foundation of any credible biofuel offering. "Without them, 'sustainable' is just a word in a press release," Norwegian Energy Trading added.
The Oslo-based bunker broker and trader, with offices in Norway and Singapore, said its biofuel volumes have been growing steadily and that it is committed to keeping pace with where the market is "genuinely heading — not where it's announced to be heading," a comment that appears to reflect scepticism towards unsubstantiated projections within the sector.
ISCC is a widely recognised certification scheme for sustainable biomass and bioenergy, providing a framework for tracing the origin and sustainability credentials of biofuels across the supply chain. Certification under the scheme requires companies to demonstrate compliance with sustainability criteria and GHG reduction thresholds.
Norwegian Energy Trading noted that the renewal was timely given the expansion of its biofuel trading activity, and thanked customers "who continue to trust us with their decarbonisation journey."
