Two oil spills reported in California

Samples are collected from vessels in the area to determine where the spilled fuel came from.

Separate oil spills polluted two sections of San Diego Bay on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Commenting on the spills, Daniel LeBlanc, Sector San Diego Deputy Commander said "Strands of silvery rainbow sheen are the only remnants of this morning's oil spill south of the Coronado Bridge. The effects of the sun, sea, and wind are naturally causing the oil to dissipate."

The Coast Guard said it is continuing to work with the state's Office of Spill and Prevention Response (OSPR) in addition to other local partners to identify the source and ensure that cleanup efforts are being carried out according to the Area Contingency Plan.

Investigators are collecting samples of the oil in the water and vessels in the area to determine a source.

Oil spill responders are reporting that the majority of the oil is so light that it is not adhering to cleanup pads. Due to the characteristics of the sheen, it appears to be a light fuel such as diesel.

The Coast Guard said it will also conduct an over flight at sunrise to assess the situation.
