Searights tanker arrested in Singapore over alleged non-payment

Vessel has been in the custody of local authorities since Friday, according to court documents.

A bunker tanker operated by Singapore-based bunker supplier Searights Maritime Services Pte. Ltd. has been arrested over a legal claim related to non-payment, according to court documents seen by Platts.

Legal representatives of Moby Dick Supplies Pte Ltd, a member of the International Shipsuppliers & Services Association (ISSA), are said to have filed a claim for SGD 15,015.15 (around USD 11,170).

According to the court documents, the claim is for "the supply of goods and materials and/or services rendered to inter alia, the defendants' ships or vessels 'Atlantic Ocean' & 'Fernando' & 'Giselle' for their operation and maintenance at the port of Singapore between the months of January 2016 to March 2016".

The arrest warrant was issued on June 28 and a vessel has been in the custody of the authorities since Friday 15th July, the court records showed.

In the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore's (MPA) ranking of suppliers by volume in 2015, Searights was ranked 12th in a list of 59 suppliers in Singapore, up two places from 14th in 2014.
