Vessel sued by bunker firm over alleged non-payment

Van-Oil Petroleum seeks a warrant of arrest so that the vessel may be seized and sold to cover the payment.

Van-Oil Petroleum Ltd, a British Virgin Islands corporation, has filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Maratha Promise, a bulk carrier, flying under the flag of the Marshall Islands, alleging that it failed to receive a payment for the bunker fuel it supplied.

According to the complaint, Van-Oil supplied bunkers to the Maratha Promise in October 2014 and has yet to be paid. The company is now seeking a warrant of arrest to be issued so that the 2012 built vessel may be seized and sold to cover the payment.

The Maratha Promise is a bulk carrier owned by Sealord LLC.
