L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEGL) has signed a long-term agreement with Itochu Corporation to supply 300,000 tonnes per year of green ammonia from its proposed production facility at Kandla, Gujarat.

The arrangement, signed at Itochu’s headquarters in Tokyo, is structured as a captive long-term take-or-pay deal between Larsen & Toubro’s wholly owned green energy subsidiary and the Japanese trading house.

The latest partnership builds on the joint development commitment signed by the two sides in July 2025 and marks a move from project development to securing long-term offtake.

Itochu said the green ammonia from Kandla will support its expanding bunkering applications as it works to develop a wider green ammonia ecosystem across key maritime trade routes. Supplies from the Indian site are expected to help its marine fuel activities in Singapore and other locations.

The deal also reinforces LTEGL’s plan to expand its green hydrogen and derivatives platform, with Kandla positioned as an export base for lower-carbon fuels in line with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Hiroyuki Tsubai, executive vice president, member of the board and president of the Machinery Company at Itochu Corporation, noted: “Establishing a reliable and scalable supply of green ammonia is critical to accelerating its adoption as marine fuel. Our partnership with LTEGL provides a strong and credible supply base, enabling us to expand our bunkering business and support the shipping industry’s transition towards low-carbon operations”.
