Bunker prices rose twice as much as Brent crude in a comparison of monthly averages in 2011, according to Bunker Index price data.

Tables have been included below to compare monthly Brent crude settlement averages and Bunker Index (BIX) averages between January and December 2011.

The data shows that between January and December 2011 the monthly Brent average rose by $10.83 per barrel, or 11.18 percent, from $96.89 to $107.72.

During the same period, the BIX global bunker average surged $151.44 per tonne, or 22.7 percent, showing that the percentage rate increase was just over double that of Brent crude.

Between January and April, Brent crude jumped $26.2 per barrel, or 27.0 percent. This was virtually matched by a $179.91 per tonne, or 26.98 percent, rise in global bunker prices over the same period.

However, subsequent months saw a significant difference in pricing with Brent crude falling around 4 percent lower than the BIX in May and August and rising almost 1 percent less than the BIX in November. The full data summary has been provided below.
