Aegean launches Tangiers operations

Leading bunker firm begins supplying full range of fuels in strategically-located North African port.

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc. has today announced that it has commenced bunkering operations at Tangiers-Med I in Morocco.

In a statement released by the company, Aegean said "Once again Aegean expands its global reach by entering into this strategic market. Tangiers is a significant location which lies on the North African Coast at the Western entrance to the Straits of Gibraltar where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic Ocean."

According to Aegean, all grades of marine fuel and gasoil, high and low sulphur, are available and in accordance with ISO 8217/2005 specifications. Offers will be quoted on a delivered basis with barging costs included in the price.

Bunker deliveries will be carried out by modern, newbuild double-hull tankers in-port and at anchorage. The names of the vessels are yet to be confirmed, Aegean said.

Current vessel capacity is said to be 4500mt with pumping rates of 300-500 mt/hr. Deliveries will take place 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

"Aegean is committed to providing the highest level of services to our customers worldwide. We look forward to fulfilling your bunker requirements in Tangiers," the company said in a statement.

Today's news follows the annnouncement in January that Horizon Tangiers Terminal S.A. (HTTSA), a special purpose consortium, had named Aegean as the exclusive bunkering company for the new port in Tangiers, Morocco.

As part of the deal, Aegean will provide retail bunkering services to ships in port on an exclusive basis for a period of 25 to 35 years. Aegean will also have the right to expand its operation beyond the port perimeter, which is strategically located along the Strait of Gibraltar connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea.
