Gasum has begun publishing a daily price for FuelEU Maritime compliance units on its website.

The Nordic energy company noted that the quoted price is not an index — it instead represents the firm's actual selling price per tonne of carbon dioxide emitted and applies to volumes of 500 tonnes CO2 and above.

According to Gasum, the move is intended to enhance transparency in the regulation compliance market, which has emerged following the introduction of the FuelEU Maritime regulation on January 1, 2025.

"We at Gasum believe a more transparent and standardised FuelEU Maritime compliance market is needed to support shipping companies in making the right decisions. For us, pooling is about trust and pricing transparency is key in increasing the trust we know our customers have in us," Jacob Granqvist, VP, Maritime at Gasum, stated in the announcement.

The FuelEU Maritime regulation requires ships over 5,000 gross tonnage calling at EU ports to reduce fuel greenhouse gas intensity, starting with a 2% reduction in 2025 and increasing to 80% by 2050. The regulation permits voluntary pooling of emission reductions between vessels, allowing over-compliant ships to offset emissions from under-compliant vessels.

Gasum generates regulation compliance by operating several designated vessels on waste-based bio-LNG within its pool.

Bio-LNG is claimed to produce, on average, 90% lower emissions compared to traditional fuels such as marine gas oil, with Gasum stating that emissions could potentially even become negative depending on the feedstock used for production.

The Finnish supplier has signed agreements with several shipping companies for its FuelEU Maritime pooling service, including Viking Line and Wallenius Sol. DNV has been appointed to verify the accuracy of Gasum's pooling service data.

On November 18, 2025, Gasum's daily published FuelEU Maritime pooling price was EUR 225 per tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (t/CO2e).
