China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) has taken delivery of a 9,300-car methanol dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), with the handover taking place on September 17.

Named CM Hong Kong, the vessel measures 219.9 meters in length and 37.7 meters in width. It is equipped with 13 cargo decks and was constructed by China Merchants Industry Haimen Base.

The car carrier, which is is the world's largest methanol-powered RoRo ship to be delivered to date, features methanol dual-fuel main and auxiliary engines, boilers, and fuel supply system.

The vessel's MAN B&W 7S60ME liquid gas injection methanol (LGIM) engine represents the first order and installation globally for the S60ME-LGIM variant. It is also the world's first methanol-fuelled engine for a PCTC and the first Chinese-built methanol engine.

The engine also features Everllence's (formerly MAN Energy Solutions) proprietary exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

The CM Hong Kong has received certification from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and China Classification Societ (CCS). It was launched in May and bunkered with methanol for the first time in July.
