Royal IHC's dredging division, IHC Dredging, has handed over the Seaway — a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) with a hopper capacity of 31,000 cbm — to Dutch dredging company Boskalis, following sea trials. The delivery took place on 20 July.

Measuring 178 metres in length and 38 metres in width, the Seaway is, according to Royal IHC, one of the largest trailing suction hopper dredgers of its kind in the world. The vessel was designed and built in collaboration between the two Dutch companies, combining Boskalis's operational knowledge with IHC Dredging's shipbuilding expertise.

The Seaway is prepared for operation on methanol — including green methanol — and features a full diesel-electric installation, Azipod propulsion, an optimised hull design and advanced automation systems. Royal IHC notes that the vessel has been developed to support large-scale dredging and coastal infrastructure projects worldwide while reducing its carbon footprint.

Rogier Kalis, Director of IHC Dredging, stated: "The delivery of the Seaway is a proud milestone for IHC Dredging and a testament to the strong partnership between Boskalis and Royal IHC. Combining high production capacity with high-tech equipment and systems, Seaway is ready to support major dredging projects around the world for decades to come."

Royal IHC added that the Seaway's design enables a larger hopper capacity while maintaining manoeuvrability and operational performance, making it suited for a range of dredging projects globally.
