Disney Cruise Line orders LNG-fuelled ship

135,000-grt vessel is expected to be completed in 2022.

Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has announced its decision to order a liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered vessel, which will bring the total size of its fleet to seven.

The 135,000-gross-tonne (grt) cruise ship is to be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany and is scheduled to be completed in 2022.

Last year, in March, DCL entered into a memorandum of agreement with Meyer Werft for the construction of two same-sized (135,000-grt) cruise ships. They are slated for completion in 2021 and 2023.

Ports of call - autumn 2017 and early 2018

In September and October this year, DCL will be providing voyages from San Diego to the Mexican ports of Ensenada, Puerto Vallerta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas.

Between November and December, DCL will also be offering trips from Galveston to the Caribbean, with stops at Falmouth (Jamaica), Nassau (Bahamas) and Cozumel (Mexico).

In January, DCL will be adding Bonaire as a new port of call as part of a seven-night cruise that departs from San Juan and also calls at Curacao, Aruba, St. Lucia, Martinique, Antigua and St. Kitts.

Also in early 2018, DCL will be providing cruises from Miami to the Caribbean, with stops including Nassau and Cozumel.

From Port Canaveral, the Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream and Disney Wonder will be sailing in January to various Caribbean locations.
