The third of four new LNG-fuelled vessels, the
Tern Sea, has been delivered at the shipyard of
AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in China.
The vessel forms part of a quartet of 15,000-deadweight-tonne (dwt) product tankers owned by Denmark's
Terntank Rederi A/S.
The Tern Sea is to transport a cargo from East Asia to Europe before commencing a time charter thereafter. The vessel's arrival in Europe is expected around 25th December.
The first of the four LNG-powered tankers, the
Ternsund, was delivered in June. It is currently operating under a time charter with Finnish company North European Oil Trade (NEOT), transporting petroleum products from the company's St1 refinery in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Last month,
Bunker Index reported that the Ternsund had been bunkered with LNG fuel by Skangas for the first time at the LNG terminal in Pori, Finland. Skangas's recently launched LNG terminal in Finland supplies LNG to a gas connection pipeline and offers truck loading as well as terminal-to-ship bunkering operations. It is the only location in the Gulf of Bothnia where ships can bunker directly from a terminal.
The second of the four sister tankers ordered by Terntank Rederi, the
Ternfjord, was delivered in September. It is under a time charter agreement with ExxonMobil and is to be used to transport oil products from the oil major's refinery plant in Slagentangen, Norway.
The fourth vessel was recently named
Tern Ocean during a ceremony at AVIC Dingheng's shipyard in China. Delivery of the tanker is expected at the start of next year.
