Eagle LNG joins SEA\LNG coalition

Houston-based LNG specialist is the coalition's first new industry partner.

The recently formed cross-industry coalition SEA\LNG is growing. The founding members have welcomed Eagle LNG Partners (Eagle LNG) as the first new industry partner to the coalition.

SEA\LNG is a multi-sector industry coalition bringing together a range of high-impact partners to accelerate the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel.

Officially launched in July this year, the founding partners are: Carnival Corporation & plc, DNV GL, ENGIE, ENN, GE, GTT, Lloyd's Register, Mitsubishi Corporation, NYK Line, Port of Rotterdam, Qatargas, Shell, TOTE Inc. and Wartsila.

Houston-based Eagle LNG, SEA\LNG's newest partner, is a bulk LNG provider that develops LNG fuelling solutions for a range of industrial applications. It is currently developing liquefaction and bunkering projects on the Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific coasts, along with inland waterways. The company is in construction and/or permitting on two new LNG production facilities in Florida.

The facility in Jacksonville, for which Eagle LNG anticipates submitting formal filing to the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Q4, 2016, will liquefy, store, and supply LNG for export to countries currently using heavy fuel oil or diesel for power generation, as well as for use in marine fuelling.

A state-of-the-art liquefaction plant in Maxville and a marine terminal near Jacksonville, both under construction, are anticipated to be operational in early 2017.

The Florida facilities will supply LNG to Crowley Puerto Rico Services for their LNG-powered Commitment-class ships.

SEA\LNG chairman, and executive vice president of TOTE Inc., Peter Keller said: "We're pleased to welcome Eagle LNG as our first new partner since SEA\LNG launched in July. Eagle LNG brings a wealth of expertise and specialist knowledge that will be instrumental in our pursuit to accelerate the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. The coalition aims to work together across the LNG value chain to address commercial barriers, promote and support the development of LNG as a key fuel for maritime transport, and significantly reduce the industry’s environmental impact."

Sean Lalani, President of Eagle LNG said: "Eagle LNG is pleased to join SEA\LNG and drive the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel forward with like-minded partners. We are already meeting the maritime industry's growing need for 'LNG as a marine fuel' with advanced environmental designs capable of operating within a small footprint. We look forward to working with the SEA\LNG partners and firmly believe that LNG is the future of sustainability, enabling us to transform the way we think about our energy needs and the way those needs impact our world."

SEA\LNG was created to accelerate the widespread adoption of LNG as a marine fuel. It aims to address and overcome challenges which include: creating the infrastructure to enable quick, safe and cost effective LNG bunkering in key global ports; diminishing the price premium for LNG-fuelled vessels; and, establishing the consistency of international and national regulations globally, in order to enhance investment in this sector.
