BW LNG has completed its first gassing-up and cool-down (GUCD) operation using an LNG bunker barge, the shipping firm announced.

The operation was carried out on the LNG carrier BW Lesmes and enabled the vessel to move safely from inert gas conditions to cargo-ready status following drydock.

BW LNG explained that GUCD is a specialised and critical procedure for LNG carriers after maintenance periods, preparing the ship for the next stage of cargo operations.

According to the gas shipper, the project involved several challenges from planning through to execution, as it was BW LNG's first time undertaking this type of operation.

The company thanked Master Capt. Aditya Sharma, the crew of BW Lesmes, and shore-based operator Zekai Çolakoğlu for their role in carrying out the operation.

BW LNG said the milestone highlights its ability to adapt, work safely under pressure and deliver reliable performance in new operational environments, further strengthening its position in LNG operations.
