Conference to cover Marpol Annex VI


Mumbai event to address implications for fuel supply and shipping costs.



The fourth annual India Shipping Summit (ISS) in October is scheduled to cover the recent revisions to MARPOL Annex VI on sulphur content in marine fuels.

The event, which will take place at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai between September 29th and October 1st, is set to address the topic of "Maritime Technology in a Changing Regulatory Environment" on the morning of October 1st, during which revisions to MARPOL Annex VI will be discussed and the implcations in terms of ship operating costs and fuel supply.

During this section, a number of other issues will be addressed including the impact of environmental regulations on the newbuilding market; what shipowners need to know about the green agenda for shipping; and a 30 minute open debate on the question: "To what extent has the shipping industry achieved the environmental standards expected of it by the wider community?”

Speakers for this section will include David Gilmour, Director of marine lubricants at BP Plc, M V Ramamurthy, President of Reliance Shipping and Tony Mason, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping/International Shipping Federation.

Other main topics for the three-day event include "India's future as a global maritime player", "Finance for Helping India Enter a New Era in the Maritime Sector" and "Offshore Oil and Gas Developments and Energy Transportation for Sustaining Growth: New Challenges for Shipowners".
