Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (Adani Ports SEZ) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an LNG bunkering facility at Vizhinjam International Seaport in the state of Kerala, India.

The agreement was formalized between Ashwani Gupta, CEO of Adani Ports SEZ, and Rahul Tandon, Business Head – Gas at BPCL.

Adani Vizhinjam Private Port Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Ports SEZ, will partner with BPCL to establish the facility. The project aims to position Vizhinjam Port as an LNG refuelling hub for international vessels.

Vizhinjam International Seaport is a project by the Government of Kerala to develop a transhipment hub for container and multi-purpose cargo on India's southwest coast. The port's strategic location along major international shipping routes positions it to serve vessels transiting through the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.

The partnership between Adani Ports SEZ and BPCL combines the port operator's infrastructure capabilities with the oil company's experience in fuel supply and distribution. Adani Ports SEZ is India's largest private port operator with a network of ports and terminals, whilst BPCL operates refineries and fuel distribution networks across India.
