Certas Energy hires OW Bunker's last appointment

Varun Chhabria returns to Wales following his spell at Windsor-based O.W. Bunkers (UK) Ltd.

Former OW Bunker trader Varun Chhabria has joined fuel and lubricant distributor Certas Energy as Manager Risk and Trading Marine, thus returning to Cardiff following his spell at the now defunct Danish-owned bunker firm.

Chhabria had been working at Windsor-based O.W. Bunkers (UK) Ltd as Manager UK Sourcing & Trading, where he was charged with overseeing the day-to-day development of the company's sourcing and reselling operations across the UK.

He was the last member of staff to be publicly named as a new employee of OW Bunker on October 7. Later that very same day, OW Bunker announced that it would be posting an unrealized accounting loss for the third quarter of 2014 as a result of the effect of sliding oil prices on its risk management policy, and on November 7 - exactly one month after Chhabria's appointment was announced - OW Bunker filed for bankruptcy.

Prior to OW Bunker, Chhabria was at Inver Energy (UK) Ltd, where had been employed as Commercial Sales Negotiator at the company's office in Cardiff since September 2012.

Before that, Chhabria also worked in Cardiff as Export Sales Manager for Niva International, where he managed a team dealing with the sale and export of recyclable commodities to the Far East and Middle East markets and was in charge of managing risk, ocean freight and commodity pricing for a range of metal and non-metal products.
