Bunker sales increase in March, but quarterly figures are below 2012 levels.

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port increased last month by 286,300 tonnes, or 9.3 percent, to 3,362,700 tonnes, up from the three-year low of 3,076,400 tonnes recorded in February.

In comparison with the corresponding month last year, March volumes were down 246,100 tonnes, or 6.8 percent.

Accumulated sales for the year so far are 10,226,700 tonnes, which represents a fall of 143,300 tonnes, or 1.4 percent, on the 10,370,000 tonnes achieved during the first three months of 2012.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - rose by 147,000 tonnes, or 6.2 percent, in March to 2,512,700 tonnes. In comparison with the corresponding month last year, sales are down 372,700 tonnes, or 12.9 percent.

Meanwhile, 500-cst volumes climbed 88,800 tonnes, or 18.0 percent, to 580,800 tonnes. The result was also 93,900 tonnes, or 19.3 percent, higher than the 486,900 tonnes sold in March 2012.
