IBIA seeks new chief executive


IBIA aims to recruit CEO to run the organisation from its Southampton headquarters.



The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has announced that it is seeking a new chief executive to run the organisation from its Southampton headquarters.

The 600-member trade association has been run by IBIA board member and maritime arbitrator Trevor Harrison on an interim basis since the resignation of its previous chief executive last year.

IBIA Chairman Nigel Draffin said: "Representing interests from across the entire marine fuels industry at the highest level represents an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive shipping or oil industry knowledge. The role entails developing and servicing a membership representing all sectors from refiners to shipowners, managing our presence at IMO, advising on strategy and acting as an industry spokesperson."

Commenting on its role within the industry, IBIA said: "IBIA exists to provide an international forum to address the concerns of all sectors of the international bunker industry; to represent the industry in discussions and negotiations with national and international policy makers, legislators and other groups and bodies; to review, clarify, improve, develop and endorse where appropriate, industry methods, practices and documentation; to increase the professional understanding and competence of all who work in the industry; to provide services and facilities for members and others."

Trevor Harrison, acting chief executive said: "Being invited last summer to lead the IBIA Secretariat on an interim and part-time basis was an unexpected challenge, but it has proved to be one of the most interesting and rewarding tasks I have ever undertaken. In my caretaker role I have had the privilege of managing an association that is bursting with enthusiasm and ideas that a full time Chief Executive will be able to take forward for the benefit of members and the industry as a whole. As for myself, I shall soon be able to focus entirely on my practice as a maritime arbitrator and mediator whilst continuing in my role as an elected voluntary member of IBIA's Board."
