Lintec expands fuel testing network

Testing agency announces regional facilities in Singapore and Houston.

Lintec Testing Services has announced that it is expanding its global marine fuel testing services to regional facilities in Singapore and Houston.

In a statement, the company said: "Lintec’s proven marine fuel testing experience, global service capabilities, laboratory network, and consulting resources offer clients an attractive, rapid, competitive, and cost-effective alternative in the market.

"Marine fuel testing is important for ship operators, charterers, and the global maritime industry. With fuel expenses reaching 60 percent of total ship operating costs, burning poor quality fuels can cause costly engine damage and down-time, and the ship may violate regulatory emission requirements. Lintec’s expansion helps to ensure clients successfully manage these bunker fuel issues."

Commenting on the issue of ISO regulations, the company said: "Lintec has a long history of working with ISO to produce international marine fuel standards, and keeping pace with rapid changes in marine industry. With new IMO emission regulations, there is a real need for marine fuel testing as fuel quality issues continue to pose operational problems. It is conservatively estimated that around 3 percent of all marine fuels are causing some operating problems, which is significant."

According to Lintec, around 50 percent of ships test their fuels with the remainder 'taking serious and potentially expensive risks' by not having their fuels analyzed.

A subsidiary of Intertek since 2005, Lintec has been serving ship owners and ship managers since 1993, offering clients a global marine fuel testing programme with full engineering comments and support in the event of any off specification fuels. Additional services offered include the chemical screening of submitted samples, pre-testing of bunker fuel stems, bunker quantity surveys and additional, investigative, analysis expertise.
