Shoreside power for San Francisco

Ceremony held to launch shoreside electrical power for cruise ships at berth.

The Port of San Francisco will today become the first port of California to provide shoreside electrical power for cruise ships at berth.

Mayor Gavin Newsom, along with Port officials, Princess Cruises, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-Region 9, and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission will today hold a ceremony to 'flip the switch' and inaugurate shoreside power, allowing the vessel Island Princess to receive power from the city’s electrical grid.

The ceremony is due to begin this morning at 11.00 am at Pier 27, located on The Embarcadero across from the foot of Lombard Street and Battery Street.
