Petrobras offers 1%S 380-cst in Brazil

Supplier offering 1.00% sulphur 380-centistoke fuel oil at Brazilian ports from next week.

Leading Brazilian bunker supplier Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) S.A. has announced that, as from Monday 7th June 2010, it will be offering 1% low sulphur 380-centistoke (cst) fuel oil at Brazilian ports.

The announcement comes in anticipation of the upcoming change in Sulphur Emission Control Area (SECA) regulation, which will come into force on July 1st 2010.

The sulphur limits applicable will be reduced from 1.50% to 1.00%, being further reduced to 0.10 % from January 1st 2015.

Last month, Petrobras announced that it had also begun supplying 1% sulphur 380-cst at the ports of Singapore and Rotterdam.

Also in May, Petrobras announced that, as from May 23rd 2010, it would state 'the actual sulphur content of products' in its Bunker Delivery Note (BDN).

The company said the new procedure was due to the fact that Brazil has ratified Annex VI of Marpol 73/78.
