Peninsula has completed a bio-LNG delivery to Royal Caribbean Group’s cruise ship Legend of the Seas at the Port of Cádiz, Spain — the first time the bunker firm has supplied bio-LNG at that port.

The operation also means that Peninsula has now supplied all three Icon-class vessels for Royal Caribbean Group.

Bio-LNG is produced from renewable feedstocks such as organic waste and is chemically identical to fossil LNG, making it compatible with existing LNG infrastructure and dual-fuel engines. Peninsula noted that the fuel can deliver substantial well-to-tank CO₂ reductions compared with conventional marine fuels, allowing shipowners to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions without requiring major modifications to vessels or supply chains.

Nacho de Miguel, Head of Alternative Fuels and Sustainability at Peninsula, commented: “This supply highlights the strength of our planning, coordination and execution at scale. As cruise operators introduce increasingly advanced vessels, our focus remains on delivering safe, reliable and efficient fuel supplies, aligned with evolving operational and environmental demands.”

For Royal Caribbean Group, the delivery is part of its broader exploration of lower-carbon fuels under its SEA the Future platform, which the cruise company describes as focused on sustaining the planet, energising communities and accelerating innovation.

The Legend of the Seas operation was carried out in coordination with the Port of Cádiz, Royal Caribbean Group and both vessel captains, Peninsula said.
