The keel-laying ceremony has been performed for a 298,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel crude oil tanker, marking the start of construction of the vessel for owner Andes Tankers I Inc.

The event took place on 26 January and formally marked the start of hull assembly for the vessel, which carries builder’s hull number 0330005.

Representatives from the shipyard, the Andes site team and DNV attended the ceremony.

The vessel is designed as a very large crude carrier (VLCC) and will be equipped with LNG dual-fuel propulsion, allowing operation on either liquefied natural gas or conventional marine fuels.

DNV will provide classification services for the vessel during construction.
