LNG-fuelled vessel delivered to Furetank


Ship is fourth of six dual-fuel tankers ordered by members of the Gothia Tanker Alliance.

The LNG-powered Fure Valo was delivered to its owner Furetank Rederi on November 27.

The ship - which was previously named earlier this month, on November 17 - is the fourth in a series of six dual-fuel, 18,000-dwt tankers ordered by members of the Gothia Tanker Alliance, with Furetank ordering three, Alvtank two and Thun Tankers one.

The other three ships to have been delivered so far are the Fure Vinga, Ramanda and Thun Venern.

Four of the six vessels were contracted in November 2015; this was followed by an order for two additional ships in October 2016.

Yangzhou-based Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding is the company responsible for constructing the vessels, which have been built according to a design developed by FKAB together with Furetank.

Key features of the six 150-metre-long ships include dual fuel/LNG propulsion and LNG in-port consumption; LNG for inert gas production; power production with floating frequency; battery backup (UPS) for all vital functions - to minimize the use of auxiliary engines; and an alternative propulsion system.

Each tanker is claimed to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 49 percent, nitrogen oxide (NOx) by 84 percent and sulphur oxide (SOx) by 99 percent.

The vessels are to be commercially managed by Furetank Chartering.
