Petrobras adds bunker barge in Rio de Janeiro

Double-hull vessel has the capacity to load around 1,740 metric tonnes of product.

Marine fuel supplier Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has confirmed the addition of a new double-hull barge to its fleet of vessels.

The MV Luiz Rebelo III has the capacity to load around 1,740 metric tonnes of product and has a pumping rate of 250 cubic metres per hour. The vessel is to operate in Rio de Janeiro.

"[This] new barge has arrived to improve the delivering bunker services in Rio de Janeiro and she will definitively speed up our operations, increase the delivery services as well as reduce the waiting time," Petrobras said in a statement.

The addition of the MV Luiz Rebelo III comes less than five months after the launch of another vessel in Rio de Janeiro, the MV Luiz Rebelo II. The new double-hull barge has the capacity to load around 2,300 metric tonnes of product and has a pumping rate of 300 cubic metres per hour. It began operating in Rio de Janeiro in September.

Another new double-hull barge, the OSM XVIII, began operating in the port of Santos in September. The vessel has a storage capacity of approximately 3,000 metric tonnes of fuel and a pumping rate of 500 cubic metres per hour.
