Neste Oil starts selling 0.1% DMB MDO

Finnish firm introduces new MDO product ahead of new Emission Control Area (ECA) regulations in January.

Finnish oil firm and bunker supplier, Neste Oil, has begun quoting DMB specification marine diesel oil (MDO) with a maximum sulphur content of 0.1%.

Up until December 11, the marine fuel seller had been offering DMA specification marine gas oil (MGO) to clients as its main distillate product with a maxumum sulphur level of 0.1%.

Today, the company was quoting its 0.1% DMB MDO at $613 per tonne in Helsinki - $44 below the price of its DMA product, which Neste Oil says is an ultra low sulphur diesel (ULSD).

In Turku, the 0.1% DMB MDO price of $603 per tonne was also $44 below the price of its ULSD DMA product.

The launch of Neste Oil's new distillate product comes days before the implementation of new Emission Control Area (ECA) regulations for MDO. From January 1, 2015, the maximum permitted level of sulphur will be reduced from 1.0% to 0.1%.
