Expansion announced at Vopak Europoort


Storage terminal to be expanded by more than 10 percent.

The port of Rotterdam has announced that the Vopak Europoort terminal is to be expanded with the addition of eight new tanks with a joint capacity of 400,000 cubic metres (cbm).

The current storage capacity of the terminal, already the world's largest, is 3.3 million cbm. The tanks will be used to store jet fuel.

The expansion is part of the MiDEx Greenfield-project. The tanks are being constructed by Verwater, a specialist in storage tank maintenance and construction.

Besides the tanks, a pumping station and connecting pipelines are also included in the construction contract. The expansion project is scheduled to be completed in February 2013, the port of Rotterdam said.
