Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE) reports that it has commenced construction on an LNG bunkering vessel.
On 15 July, the first of two 18,900-cbm LNG bunkering vessels (hull number S1151) being built for Purus Marine had its first steel cut. The ceremony was attended by representatives from Purus Marine, supervision company SMC and classification society DNV, which has assigned a gas expert to the project.
According to CIMC SOE, the vessels — independently designed by the yard and measuring under 140 metres in overall length — will be chartered to Shell upon completion to support the energy company’s LNG bunkering operations. The two-vessel contract was signed last year. Each vessel is equipped with two IMO Type C storage tanks.
Chris Cooper, newbuilding manager at Purus Marine, attended the ceremony alongside Chen Bin, deputy general manager of CIMC SOE’s shipbuilding division.
