Sonker Bunkering to develop East Port Said terminal


Bunker supplier in joint project to build liquid bulk storage terminal in East Port Said.

The Oiltanking Group has announced that jointly with Sonker Bunkering Company it will develop the proposed liquid bulk terminal at East Port Said at the eastern side of the Suez Canal as tendered by the Egyptian Ministry of Transport.

The terminal shall be built on 50 hectares of land and shall include in Phase 1 approximately 1 million cubic metres (cbm) of storage capacity and four dedicated deepwater Jetties.

"Oiltanking is confident that in association with Sonker Bunkering Company and the much appreciated support of all institutions involved, the development of this terminal will contribute to the further growth of East Port Said and its future strategic importance as a major petroleum logistics hub in the Eastern Mediterranean," Oiltanking said in a statement.

Sonker Bunkering Company S.A.E. (Sonker) is a petroleum storage, handling and bunker supply company incorporated in Egypt. Sonker is jointly owned by the Amiral Holding Group and companies associated with Egyptian government entities.

Oiltanking is a subsidiary of Marquard and Bahls AG, Germany, a leading privately owned petroleum company. It is the second-largest independent tank storage provider for petroleum products, chemicals and gases world-wide.

The company owns and operates 68 terminals in 21 countries within Europe, North and South America, Middle East, India as well as Asia. Oiltanking has an overall storage capacity exceeding 17 million cubic meters.
