CMA CGM has named its latest newbuild vessel, CMA CGM Lorenzaccio, a 15,000-teu methanol-powered container ship, as the French carrier continues to expand its fleet of alternative-fuel tonnage with vessels bearing names associated with French literature.

CMA CGM Lorenzaccio is part of a six-vessel series of methanol dual-fuel container ships built at DSIC’s Tianjin yard in China. It follows CMA CGM Monte Cristo and CMA CGM Roi Arthur, named on 21 January 2026 and 30 July 2026, respectively.

Under the command of Captain Predrag Vojvodi, the boxship will be deployed on the company's REX2 service — a liner service connecting East Asia, mainly China, with the Red Sea region, including ports such as Jeddah, Sokhna, and Aqaba. Given the ongoing security risks in the Red Sea, carriers are adjusting Suez and Cape routings and reviewing these arrangements regularly in line with updated risk assessments.

The ship takes its name from the title of Alfred de Musset’s French Romantic drama, published in 1834, and the nickname of its central character, Lorenzo de’ Medici.
