2,000-litre bunker spill in Yellow Sea

Clean-up work in progress after bunker tanker leaks fuel oil following collision.

A collision between a bunker tanker and a bulk carrier in the Yellow Sea has resulted in an oil spill of almost 2,000 litres of bunker fuel, Fairplay reports.

Oil spill clean up work is already in progress after the 500 gross tonne (gt) tanker Yeomyong 7 crashed against the 1,600gt Keumho 5 on Saturday near South Korea’s resort island of Shinan.

The Yeomyong 7 is reported to have been on its way to Yosu after discharging bunker fuel at Gunsan port when the incident took place.

The coastguards and the Korean navy have sent out a total of 34 vessels and a helicopter to monitor the clean-up.
