NuStar halts Gulf Coast operations


NuStar Energy shuts down terminals ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac.



Terminal operator, asphalt refiner and bunker supplier NuStar Energy L.P. has shut down two Gulf Coast storage facilities ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac.

NuStar has closed its Mobile, Alabama, refined products terminal and St. James, Louisiana, crude oil terminal as operations along the eastern Gulf of Mexico are halted ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac, which is expected to make landfall late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

On Monday morning, at approximately 4 am, NuStar stopped pipeline deliveries of crude oil from the Gulf of Mexico into its St. James, Louisiana facility.

Barge deliveries both up and down the Mississippi River to and from the terminal have also been halted.

Based in San Antonio, Texas, NuStar Energy is one of the largest asphalt refiners and marketers in the U.S. and the country's second largest independent liquids terminal operator. It operates over 8,000 miles of pipeline, 84 terminal and storage facilities that store and distribute crude oil, refined products and specialty liquids; two asphalt refineries and a fuels refinery with a combined throughput capacity of 118,500 barrels per day.

NuStar Energy also supplies marine fuels in Texas City, Los Angeles, Point Tupper, Port Hawkesbury and St. Eustatius.
