Minister for Transport presents Bunker Award


Singapore's seventh largest supplier is recognised at International Maritime Awards.

Singapore-based independent marine fuel supplier Sentek Marine & Trading Pte Ltd. has been presented with this year's Bunker Award at the Singapore International Maritime Awards (IMAs), held earlier this week.

Organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) during the Singapore Maritime Week, the biennial IMAs recognised companies and individuals for their outstanding contributions to Singapore's development as a major global hub port and international maritime centre.

Presenting the Bunker Award to Sentek Marine & Trading Pte Ltd. was guest of honour Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs.

According to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) in January, Sentek Marine & Trading was listed seventh in Singapore's top 20 bunker suppliers by volume last year. BP Singapore Pte Ltd. was named the leading supplier for the eighth year in a row, followed by fellow oil major ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. and SK Energy International Pte. Ltd. The last recipient of the Bunker Award in 2009, Global Energy Trading Pte. Ltd., came fifth in last year's top 20 list.

Twenty-five companies have been awarded the Approved International Shipping Enterprise (AIS) or Approved Shipping Logistics Enterprise (ASL) scheme, further strengthening the core group of ship owners and operators in Singapore. The AIS and ASL schemes help to promote more ship owning, operating and management activities in Singapore.

IMA 2011 also saw the first recipient of the Ship Broking and Forward Freight Agreement Trading (SBFFA) Scheme. Receiving the award was Braemar Seascope Pte Ltd.

Singapore is currently home to more than 5,000 maritime establishments and businesses. This includes more than 110 international shipping groups and a broad range of technical and commercial maritime service providers.
