Membrane tank technology ordered for two LNG carriers


Technology is said to offer an optimized daily boil-off rate and help achieve fuel savings.



Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) - a designer of membrane containment systems for the maritime transportation and storage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) - has confirmed that it has received a membrane technology order for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

The vessels are to be built by the Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). They are expected to be delivered between 2017 and 2018.

According to GTT, the two LNG carriers will be built with NO 96 GW membrane technology, which is said to allow an optimized daily boil-off rate of cargo LNG and help achieve fuel savings during journeys.

The vessels are to be operated by BW Group, a Norwegian owner with a long history of operating GTT-designed LNG carriers.

Commenting on the company's latest order, Philippe Berterottière, chairman and CEO of GTT, remarked: "We are very happy to receive this new order. It shows our long partnership with DSME, which is particularly involved in the promotion of NO 96 membrane systems; as well as BW, who already operates many ships equipped with GTT technologies."
