Bunker firm buys tanker for Azov-Black Sea Basin operations

Vessel to be named after lake in the North Caucasus.

Baltic Fuel Company (BFC) has confirmed that it has acquired an oil products tanker to perform bunkering operations in the ports of the Azov-Black Sea Basin.

On September 15, 2014, the Ayfer Ka [pictured] arrived at Port Kavkaz for customs clearance, a flag changing ceremony and registration with the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

Built in 2007, the vessel arrived from Turkey. It is due to be named Abrau - after a lake in the Krasnodar Krai Region, located in the south-west part of the North Caucasus.

"With this, the company makes a start for a series of ships bearing the names of Russian lakes," the company said in a statement.

The ice-class double-hull oil tanker is said to meet the requirements of MARPOL Annex VI. The vessel's main characteristics are as follows:

Deadweight tonnage (dwt): 3950 (according to BFC)/ 3791 (according to other sources)
Length overall (LOA): 90.80 metres
Beam: 14.60 metres
