Singapore sales fall 7.7 percent in April

500-centistoke sales record largest year-on-year decline since November 2009.

Bunker sales in Singapore fell by 7.7 percent in April 2011, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales at the world's leading bunker port were 3,248,500 tonnes in April, down 272,200 tonnes from 3,520,700 tonnes in March and 174,100 tonnes, or 5.4 percent, lower than the 3,422,600 tonnes sold during the corresponding month last year.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - declined in April by 206,300 tonnes, or 7.5 percent, to 2,541,500 tonnes, down from 2,747,800 tonnes the previous month. In a comparison with the same month last year, volumes were exactly the same.

Meanwhile, sales of 500-cst - the port's second best-selling fuel grade - decreased by 47,500 tonnes, or 10.0 percent, to 475,400 tonnes, down from 472,90 tonnes in March.

Significantly, in a comparison with the corresponding month last year, 500-cst volumes were 80,000 tonnes, or 15.8 percent, lower in April 2011.

It is the first year-on-year monthly decrease for this fuel grade since November 2010 and the largest downward year-on-year fall since November 2009, when sales plummeted 77,400 tonnes, or 18.6 percent.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
