Hapag-Lloyd implements double-digit percentage rise for bunker charges from East and South Asia to North America


Rates from the Middle East to North America West Coast and East Coast are up 9.66 percent and 9.43 percent respectively.



Hapag-Lloyd has announced that it will be increasing its bunker surcharges for all dry, reefer, flat rack and open-top containers from both the Middle East to the US and Canada, and East Asia and the Indian Subcontinent to the US and Canada.

Whilst the Middle East to North America West Coast and North America East Coast rates are up by 9.66 percent and 9.43 percent respectively, the surcharge increases from East Asia and the Indian Subcontinent are much higher - at between 15.2 and 15.3 percent for East Coast destinations and between 17.3 and 17.5 percent for West Coast ports.

Effective from March 1, the bunker rates will be as follows:
