Singapore revises port dues for bunker tankers


New charging system aims to encourage the use of MARPOL-compliant bunker tankers in Singapore.



The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has announced a revision of its charging system for port dues as part of its strategy to encourage the use of efficient and environmentally-friendly bunker tankers in the port of Singapore.

The MPA will, with effect from January 1 2012, introduce a flat 15% surcharge on non double-hulled bunker tankers up to 16 years old.

In addition, to encourage the use of MARPOL-compliant double-hulled bunker tankers in the port of Singapore, the 50% port dues rebate for bunker tankers up to 5 years old will only be applicable to MARPOL-compliant double-hulled bunker tankers.

The details of the revised port dues surcharge for bunker tankers are as follows:-

Age of Bunker Tanker: Up to 5 years old
-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge before 1 January 2012: 50% rebate

-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge from 1 January 2012 - MARPOL-Compliant Double-Hulled: 50% rebate

-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge from 1 January 2012 - Others: 15% surcharge

Age of Bunker Tanker: Up to 16 years old
-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge before 1 January 2012: ---

-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge from 1 January 2012 - MARPOL-Compliant Double-Hulled: ---

-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge from 1 January 2012 - Others: 15% surcharge

Age of Bunker Tanker: Above 16 years but below 17 years old
-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge before 1 January 2012: 15% surcharge

-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge from 1 January 2012 - MARPOL-Compliant Double-Hulled: 15% surcharge

-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge from 1 January 2012 - Others: 15% surcharge

Age of Bunker Tanker: Subsequent years
-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge before 1 January 2012: 15% increment surcharge for each subsequent year

-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge from 1 January 2012 - MARPOL-Compliant Double-Hulled: 15% increment surcharge for each subsequent year

-Port Dues Rebate / Surcharge from 1 January 2012 - Others: 15% increment surcharge for each subsequent year
