Singapore sales exceed 3 million tonnes in August

Bunker volumes fall slightly in August. 180-cst sales drop by 25 percent year-on-year.

Bunker sales in Singapore surpassed the 3 million tonne mark for the second month in succession in August as volumes fell slightly by 9,500 tonnes compared to July to 3,063,100 tonnes, according to estimates released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Total sales of marine fuel at the world's leading bunker port were also 88,600 tonnes lower than in August last year when the monthly total reached 3,151,700 tonnes.

Accumulated bunker sales in 2009 have now surpassed the 24 million tonne mark at 24,027,800 tonnes - the first time this has been achieved by August. In a comparison with last year, bunker volumes reached 23,540,500 tonnes over the same eight-month period.

Sales of 380-centistoke (cst) - Singapore's largest-selling bunker grade - fell by 39,800 tonnes in August to 2,382,000 tonnes. However, the figure was 9.500 tonnes higher than during the same month last year when volumes sold were 2,372,500 tonnes.

Meanwhile sales of 500-cst - the second-best selling product in Singapore - rose by 26,100 tonnes to 316,600 tonnes. In a comparison with August 2008 however, sales volumes were down by 59,800 tonnes.

Sales of 180-cst dipped for the second month in succession in August. Volumes were 13,000 tonnes lower than the previous month at 178,200 and a significant 60,500 tonnes, or 25.3 percent, less than in August 2008, when the monthly total reached 238,700 tonnes.

Below are tables of bunker sales in Singapore for each fuel grade in 2009 and 2008 respectively with accumulated totals in the bottom row.
